A: If they are a distraction, then they should not be inside. One should avoid having them in front of the place in which people are praying. The art work should not resemble that of churches, etc.

They are allowed on the outside, they should not be of animate paintings. It should not resemble that of churches, etc.

All paintings associated with a musjid should exist to enhance the quality of ones spirituality. If it does not do this, it should be avoided. The idea of a musjid should be to take people closer to Allah (SWT). The art work should fulfill this while also not violating other aspects of religion.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
