iftaar money

Q: At our musjid in we collected $25973 for iftaar. After juma khutba mashaAllah we said to the pople to put money in a box that had written IFTAR party money. We used up 16500. The musjid officials said to use the left over money on musjid extension. 3 members voted yes. 1 said no, we should give it to the poor. Can you clarify whats best to do.

Ahsanal jazaa

A: Those that gave money must be asked if that money can be used for the musjid project.

(In all possibility, this may prove challenging.)

One cannot use the iftar money anyway one wishers by mere voting. Rules of deen are not all based on voting. Deen is not a vote. Imaan is not a voting matter. Fasting is not done by voting. Iftar is not an iftar party! It is an ibadah. It must be treated as such.

I do appreciate you seeking clarity. May Allah (SWT) bless each of your fast, May Allah (SWT) bless your community as well, Ameen.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
