Q: I have skin disease. I was walking in the mall and the sales person has oils form the dead sea that will work on my body. You will notice that in the malls they sell dead sea salts. Most of them that sell it are our jewish brothers and sisters. Imaam can it be used?

A: The Dead Sea is a place upon which the punishment of Allah (swt) took place. One should derive benefit from that which is not only Halal (permissible) but that which is attained from places of good as well. Therefore, to use these salts would not be allowed if substitutes exist.

Additionally, if a person cannot find a substitute, then in such an instance, prior to its usage, ensure that (scientific) evidence exists regarding its benefits.

Allah Certainly Knows Best.
